Recluse
I gaze at you from across the room--
Over a vast distance, like an ocean.
I wonder,
Are you thinking of me?
Do you ever think of me?
With scientific curiosity
I examine the anatomy of your eyes
And try to penetrate their darkness,
But I never look long enough
To uncover their secrets.
So I confine my soul to its lonely prison
And long to be brave
And pretty,
Wishing I could make you notice me
Without ever letting you know.
