The Thinking Dog
It is impossible not to wonder
What goes on in a dog's head,
But playing such guessing games
Is, in the end, futile.
Does a dog pride itself
On being a complex and intelligent creature
In the way that it might
Had it been born human?
Perhaps not. The human race
Is so wrapped up in being
The glorious end product of millions
Of years of evolution
That maybe we do not notice
The dogs laughing at us
Behind their collars.
